What is chemical genomics?
How could chemical genomics be used with PINK1 as a target?
Higher expression of PINK1 leads to lower levels of mitochondrial dysfunction and neurodegeneration (1). Many different small molecules could be screened for higher levels of PINK1 expression using immunofluorescence. PINK1 immunofluorescence levels data could be collected using laser-scanning microplate cytometers (2). This assay would be used to determine novel small molecules that can increase expression of PINK1 and potentially serve as a treatment for low levels of PINK1 in PD patients.
